Restore Your Smile

restore your smileMaryville, Alcoa and Knoxville TN

Cedar Street Family Dentistry offers a variety of restorative dental procedures to help repair damaged, decayed, or missing teeth. Restoring your smile is an essential part of your oral health, and can help you feel good about your smile. Restorative procedures that are available at your Knoxville area dentist include the following.

Tooth Colored Fillings

Composite is the filling material of choice when it comes to matching your tooth color. Composite fillings provide good durability for small and medium cavities, and the procedure typically involves removing less of a tooth than you would during an amalgam filling. Composite fillings consist of plastic and glass particles, which are bonded to the prepared tooth structure. Composites are well suited for treating front or highly visible teeth because of their natural look.

Dental Crowns allow your Knoxville dentist to repair badly broken down, cracked, or fractured teeth. A crown often described as a “cap,” is a dental restoration that encircles the tooth. Another application for crowns is when a tooth has had a root canal. In most cases, we gladly offer our patients digital impressions for a more pleasant experience and a more accurate fit. If your crown has come off, please hold on to your restoration and call your dentist ASAP to schedule an appointment to recement the crown. Failure to do so in a timely manner can cause teeth to shift resulting in the possible remake of the crown. Please do not use any at home adhesives to recement your crown, as they can be toxic.

A Full Denture is used when all teeth in an arch need to be replaced. Our dentures are designed in a careful manner, taking into account the bite, the height, and width of the patient’s smile, shape of the patient’s face, shade of their skin, as well as the texture, and tooth position of the patient. Complete dentures are “immediate” or “conventional.” An immediate denture is a complete denture or partial denture that is placed the same day following removal of natural teeth. The Immediate denture acts as a Band-Aid to protect the tissues and reduce bleeding after tooth extraction. The conventional denture is ready for placement in the mouth about 8 to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed. We also reline and repair dentures if possible.

Removable Partial Dentures

A partial denture is used when only a few teeth need to be replaced. It is a removable appliance with artificial teeth attached replacing missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Some removable partial options include cast metal, flexible, and acrylic.

Dental Bridges may be used to bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. An artificial tooth, called a “pontic,” is joined between two crowns, called “abutments,” creating a fixed bridge. The success of any bridge depends on its foundation—the other teeth, gums, or bone (in cases of a dental implant) to which it is attached. Therefore, it is very important to keep your existing teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong.

Implant Retained Denture

For the denture wearer, implants can mean a life without pain, without embarrassment, and without unhealthy eating habits. Implant retained dentures are more stable and “real” feeling than most types of dentures. Implants are a proven restoration option with a long, clinical history and an excellent success rate. Benefits of dental implants include: improved oral health, ability to eat, appearance and self-esteem, increased denture comfort and stability.

When replacing teeth, dental Implants most closely provide the feel, function, and appearance of natural teeth when compared to any other treatment. Now the standard of care for replacing missing teeth, a dental implant is placed into the jawbone so that it can fuse with your natural bone and becomes a strong and sturdy foundation for replacement teeth. Implants can be used to replace an individual tooth or for an implant-supported bridge or denture containing multiple teeth.

Named after Carpe Diem, “seize the day,” this is a service that we offer our patients alongside our referring team of Oral Surgeons. The DIEM procedure has gained popularity with patients that have existing Dentures or hopeless teeth and want to have fixed full arch, non-removable teeth. New teeth are provided the same day as the implant surgery, and patients leave the office with a new set of fixed, non-removable temporary teeth. Once the implants have gone through complete healing, approximately 3 months, a new set of permanent teeth is fabricated.
